Bereavement Ministry – Our Bereavement Ministry is under the direction of Sister Patricia Fowler and Bishop Godfrey A. Stubbs.
Matthew 5:4 says, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”
Mission Statement: The mission of the Bereavement Ministry is to provide spiritual support and comfort to individuals and their relatives who experience the death of a loved one. We strive to comfort and encourage those who are confined to their homes, hospitals and other health-care facilities due to illness or other medical conditions.
The bereavement ministry will also help the family make funeral plans—whether held at the church or at another location. They may take on the responsibility of notifying others about the date, time and location of the funeral. If asked, they can also order the flowers, set up the sanctuary, organize a potluck, answer phone calls and perform many other tasks that would otherwise monopolize the time of grieving family members.
Ministry Responsibilities:
- Shall oversee and supervise all operations within your Ministry.
- Shall seek to fulfill all responsibilities with dedication and love for your work and respect for all members.
- Shall keep the Bishop apprised of needs and conditions within your Ministry.
- Shall maintain all paperwork and tracking reports as required.
- Shall be an example to the Church in soul winning by continually being involved in the outreach ministry of your choice, with the Bishop approval.
- Shall be an example to the Church in spiritual growth by coming at least 30 minutes early to pray before each service.
- Shall attend all quarterly planning meetings. If unable to attend, shall inform the Bishop in advance and have a substitute attend for you.
- Shall remember that your service to God goes beyond the church service and building. Your actions outside the church also dictate people’s response to the effectiveness of your ministry.
